I would like to register my opposition to this cynical piece of legislation. It is only proposed because Welsh Labour believe it is a way to maintain power indefinitely to the detriment of Wales. In reality by having no identifiable AM in a Ward it effectively removes the constitutional right every elector has to vote for their person of choice. It also removes individual responsibility on the part of an AM, which is a constitutional requirement. The panel advising the Labour/Plaid coalition, including two prestigious professors in this field, has already urged caution regarding the implementation of such a policy with a recommendation that it should not go ahead in it’s present form, but their advice has, as usual, been ignored. Lastly I believe that it is undemocratic and not in keeping with Welsh standards.
